During 6th century B.C., a Surya Vamsha king named ‘Ashmaka’ established his Kingdome named ‘Ashmaka’ and built a city named ‘Poudana’ as the epic Mahabharath’s Karna Parvam. The Kingdome Ashmaka was captured by the king Karna. The king Karna was assisted by the people of Nagula tribe in the battle.

Nizamabad district is bounded on the North by Aadilabad dist and on the East by Karimnagar dist, on the South by Medak dist, on the West by Nanded (Maharastra State) and Beedar (Karnataka State). The geographical area of the district is 7,956Sq.Kms. And lies between 180 - 05' and 190 of the Northern latitudes and 770 - 40' and 780 - 37' of the Eastern longitudes.

Nizamabad stands on top rank in the field of education. This year nizamabad students get top ranks in Intermediate and EAMCET. The Telangana University is located at Dichpalli, it shifted to it's own premises. Giriraj Govt. College formally known as GG college gets autonomous status. In Nizamabad district we have eight engineering colleges, two pharmacy colleges, one medical and one dental college. All the B.Tech and B.Pharmacy colleges are affiliated to JNTU, Hyderabad. Top most engg college is Vijay Rural Engineering College (VREC), established in the year 1997-98 located at Manikbandar, Nizamabad. Two Pharmacy colleges are established in the year 2008-09.
